Trachelospermum Asiaticum, Japanese Star Jasmine
A twining climber or ground cover with clusters of very fragrant star-shaped white flowers in summer. As opposed to the similair Trachelospernum jasminoides, the asiaticum species is best suited to being used as a groundcover plant. Its spread and self suckering growth habit, make it ideal for semi-formal or even formal applications around english box or Cupressus Glauca. Trim if need for low, even hedging. Japanese Star Jasmine will flower in January to February.
Trachelospermum asiaticum, commonly known as Japanese star jasmine, is a twining evergreen vine native to Japan, Korea, and China. It is a popular ornamental plant valued for its glossy, dark green leaves and fragrant white flowers.
The leaves of Trachelospermum asiaticum are leathery and oval-shaped, growing up to 5 cm long. The flowers, which bloom in late spring and early summer, are small and star-shaped, with a sweet, vanilla-like fragrance. The plant can grow up to 6 meters in height, and its long, flexible stems can be trained to climb walls, trellises, or other support structures.
Trachelospermum asiaticum is a hardy plant that prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. It is tolerant of a wide range of soil types, including sandy or clay soils, and can withstand periods of drought once established. The plant is relatively low-maintenance and requires little pruning, although it may benefit from occasional training or trimming to maintain its shape or control its growth.
