Sizing guide
An attractive small shrub producing beautiful waxy-white, bell-shaped, fragrant flowers in spring followed by pinkish-coloured new growth.
Pieris prefer a semi-shaded position. Fertilise with general purpose organic plant food, or osmocote in spring.
Pieris japonica 'Temple Bells' is a cultivar of Japanese pieris that is prized for its large, showy flower clusters. The flowers are typically white, tinged with pink or red, and are larger than those of other Pieris japonica varieties. The shrub itself can grow up to 1-2mt tall and wide.
Like other Pieris japonica cultivars, 'Temple Bells' prefers acidic soil and partial shade. It is also tolerant of full sun if the soil is kept consistently moist. The shrub blooms in early spring, providing a burst of color to the landscape after the winter months.
'Temple Bells' is a relatively low-maintenance shrub that requires little pruning beyond the removal of dead or damaged branches. It is also deer-resistant, making it a good choice for gardens in areas where deer are a problem.
Consider pruning the flowers in cut flower displays, this will also encourage new growth.
