Cornus florida ‘Rubra’, commonly known as the Pink Flowering Dogwood, is a stunning deciduous tree prized for its soft pink, four-bracted flowers that bloom in early to mid-spring. Its delicate blossoms contrast beautifully against its dark green foliage, which turns vibrant shades of red and purple in autumn.

This variety also produces small red berries in late summer, attracting birds and wildlife. Growing to around 6–8 meters tall and wide, it has a graceful, spreading canopy, making it an excellent feature tree for gardens, streetscapes, and parks.

In Melbourne and Sydney, Cornus florida ‘Rubra’ thrives in full sun to partial shade with well-drained, fertile, slightly acidic soil. It benefits from regular watering, particularly during dry spells, though it dislikes waterlogged conditions. Mulching around the base helps retain moisture and regulate temperature. Minimal pruning is required, mainly to remove dead or weak branches. With its seasonal beauty and elegant form, Pink Flowering Dogwood is a perfect ornamental tree for adding year-round interest to gardens and landscapes.
