Cornus florida ‘Alba’, commonly known as the White Flowering Dogwood, is a stunning deciduous tree prized for its abundant spring blossoms. In early to mid-spring, it produces clusters of small yellow-green flowers surrounded by large, showy white bracts, creating a striking floral display. Its lush green, oval-shaped foliage turns brilliant shades of red and purple in autumn before shedding, revealing an elegant branching structure. It also produces small red berries in late summer, which attract birds. Growing to around 6–8 meters tall and wide, it makes an excellent specimen tree for gardens, parks, or woodland plantings.

In Melbourne and Sydney, Cornus florida ‘Alba’ thrives in full sun to partial shade with well-drained, slightly acidic, fertile soil. It prefers consistent moisture but does not tolerate waterlogging. Mulching around the base helps retain soil moisture and regulate temperature. Regular watering during dry periods promotes healthy growth. Minimal pruning is required, apart from shaping and removing dead or weak branches. With its seasonal beauty and compact size, White Flowering Dogwood is a perfect feature tree for adding elegance and year-round interest to gardens.
