Cercis canadensis Eastern Redbud
Cercis canadensis, commonly known as Eastern Redbud, is a stunning deciduous tree native to North America. It is celebrated for its early spring display of vibrant, pea-like flowers in shades of pink or purple, which appear on bare branches before the heart-shaped green leaves emerge. In autumn, the foliage turns golden-yellow, adding seasonal beauty. Growing to a height of 6–9 meters, Eastern Redbud is perfect as a feature tree or in small gardens.
To grow Eastern Redbud, plant it in well-drained, fertile soil in a sunny to partially shaded spot. It thrives in temperate climates like Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, provided it is protected from extreme heat and strong winds. Water regularly during establishment and apply mulch to retain moisture. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape. Hardy and low-maintenance, it’s a showstopper in any garden.
