Stachys byzantina Silky Fleece, commonly known as Lamb’s Ear, is a low-growing, evergreen perennial prized for its soft, silvery-gray, velvety foliage. This compact variety forms a dense mat, growing up to 15 cm tall and spreading to 30 cm, making it an excellent ground cover for sunny borders, rockeries, or cottage gardens. In summer, it may produce short spikes of small, pale purple flowers.

To grow Silky Fleece, plant it in full sun with well-drained soil, as it thrives in dry conditions and tolerates poor soils. It performs well in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, provided it is kept dry in humid climates to prevent fungal issues. Water sparingly, especially once established, and avoid overhead watering.
