Hakea Pin cushion is an erect shrub that grows 4-6metres tall and wide, sometimes reaching small tree proportions. Has globular red flower heads with protruding white styles which mainly flower during Autumn and early Winter.

Excellent Australian native plant for screening purposes.  Very hardy and tolerant of frost and drought conditions.  Keep barely moist during first summer.  Under rated plant that should be used more often in our gardens.

Hakea Laurina, commonly known as Pin Cushion or Pincushion Hakea, is a species of flowering plant native to Western Australia. It belongs to the family Proteaceae, which includes other well-known genera such as Banksia and Grevillea.

The plant is named after its distinctive flowers, which resemble pincushions with long pins. The flowers are usually pink or red, and they bloom in winter and spring. The leaves of Hakea Laurina are dark green, long and narrow, and have a slightly serrated edge.

The Pin Cushion Hakea is a popular ornamental plant in gardens and landscaping, valued for its attractive flowers and foliage. It is relatively easy to grow, preferring well-draining soils in a sunny or partially shaded position. The plant can tolerate some drought and frost, making it suitable for a range of climates.

In its native range, Hakea Laurina plays an important ecological role, providing habitat and food for a range of animals including birds and insects. However, like many native species in Australia, it is also threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation caused by human activities such as urbanization and land clearing.
