Acmena smithii, commonly known as Lilly Pilly, is a species of evergreen tree or shrub native to Australia. It is a popular ornamental plant in gardens and parks due to its attractive glossy leaves, colorful new growth, and edible fruit. Highly regarded for use as a screening plant.  Can be trimmed to shape and quickly grows to maximum size.

The Lilly Pilly plant can grow 6-8 meters tall and 3-5 mt wide, but is often kept smaller as a hedge or topiary. Its leaves are ovate to elliptic in shape, with a glossy dark green upper surface and a paler green underside. The new growth is often a reddish or bronze color, which gradually turns green as it matures.

In early summer, the Lilly Pilly produces clusters of small white or cream-colored flowers, which are followed by round or oval-shaped edible fruit that can range in color from pale pink to deep red or purple. The fruit has a slightly tart taste and is often used in jams, jellies, and other culinary applications.

Lilly Pilly is a hardy plant that can tolerate a range of soil types and conditions, but prefers well-draining soil and full sun to partial shade. It is a popular choice for hedging and screening due to its dense foliage and fast growth rate.
