Acer palmatum species of deciduous tree that is native to Japan, Korea, and China. It is widely grown as an ornamental tree in gardens and parks around the world for its attractive foliage, which varies in color and shape depending on the cultivar.

Japanese Maples are surprisingly hardy, their biggest enemy is hot wind. They will tolerate sun, in fact most of the purple-leafed varieties will go green in the shade, but the very pale-leafed ones appreciate a bit of shade.

Online plants recommends mulching your Japanese maple with at least 100mm of organic mulch.  Will benefit from feeding twice per year with a complete plant food and liquid fertilizer.
