Australian Indigo

Indigofera australis, commonly known as Australian Indigo, is a lovely native shrub that thrives in the climates of Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney.

To grow it successfully, select a sunny to partly shaded location with well-draining soil. This plant is adaptable to various soil types but prefers slightly acidic conditions. Water regularly, especially during the establishment period, but allow the soil to dry out between waterings to prevent root rot.

Australian Indigo is drought-tolerant once established and can withstand moderate frosts. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain a tidy shape and encourage new growth. This plant can reach up to 1.5 meters in height and spread, so give it enough space to flourish. Australian Indigo produces beautiful pink flowers in spring, adding a delightful pop of color to the garden.
