Acacia Bailyana Cootamundra Wattle

Acacia Cootamundra Wattle has smooth, greyish brown bark. It has bright yellow flower clusters in late winter to spring. It is a hardy Australian native plant, suitable for a wide range of climates and soils, provided they are reasonably well drained and is best grown in full sun through to partial shade. Acacia baileyana, commonly known as Cootamundra wattle, is a species of flowering tree in the Fabaceae family. It is native to southeastern Australia and is named after the town of Cootamundra in New South Wales. Cootamundra wattle is a medium-sized, fast-growing tree that can reach a height of up to 5-8mt tall . It has a rounded or weeping habit, with delicate, fern-like, bluish-gray foliage.

The tree is known for its vibrant and abundant flowers. The fragrant blooms appear in late winter or early spring, forming clusters of bright yellow, spherical flower heads. Each flower head consists of numerous tiny individual flowers.  The leaves of Acacia baileyana are bipinnate, meaning they are divided into numerous small leaflets. The foliage has a silvery-blue color, which adds to the tree's ornamental value.

Cootamundra wattle is adaptable to various soil types but prefers well-drained soils. It can tolerate both drought and frost, making it suitable for a range of climatic conditions.

This acacia species is commonly grown as an ornamental tree in gardens and landscapes due to its attractive foliage and vibrant flowers. It can also be used for erosion control and as a windbreak. The tree provides habitat and food for wildlife, including birds, bees, and butterflies.
