An extremely popular screening plant. Castlewellan Gold needs a sunny position to maintain the golden colour.
Fast growing, dense conical tree of attractive green-gold foliage. The Leyland Cypress group are ideal as a windbreak, screen or trimmed hedge. Extremely hardy, doing well in the harshest conditions. Has a good tolerance to soil salinity. As with all Leyland Cypress, Castlewellan Gold must be trimmed to size when plants start to compete with each other to avoid stress on the trees. Grow to 6-7m high x 3m wide in the first 10 years.
To grow Cupressocyparis Leylandii 'Castlewellan Gold', choose a sunny location with well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice the width and slightly deeper than the root ball. Place the plant in the hole, backfill with soil, and tamp down gently. Water thoroughly and add a layer of mulch around the base to retain moisture. Provide regular watering during the first year. Prune lightly to maintain desired shape and size. Protect from frost and extreme temperatures. Regularly monitor for pests and diseases, and apply appropriate treatments if necessary. Our free Garden
